Don't Be Afraid Of The "E" Word

The Devil’s Path

I recently did an overnight backpacking trip in the Catskill Mountains, NY where myself and a couple of friends hiked a portion of The Devil’s Path.

It has been said that The Devil’s Path is one of the hardest hiking trails on the east coast and I would agree. Right from the beginning I was winded and feeling the burn in the muscles of my legs (carrying a 30+ pound pack doesn’t make it any easier).

Anyway during my hike I got a tremendous workout but not ONCE did I think of it as exercise (that dreaded “E” word for many) even though it was quite a workout. That’s because I was doing an activity that I enjoyed.

Our Challenge to You

So I would like to challenge you to find an activity that you enjoy and don’t see as exercise. Some people love going to the gym to lift weights or run on the treadmill and that’s great. However many people despise going to the gym.

And guess what? You don’t have to go to the gym to get a fantastic workout. So what activity can you do that you enjoy and doesn’t seem like exercise?

Riding your bike, swimming, yard work, hiking, etc.

Choose something you enjoy and stick with it! Take care of your health and it will continue to serve you for years to come.

    Dr. Kirk, You are always an inspiration to me. I plan to be back on my bike after a walking tour in Eastern Europe beginning this week. I review the suggestions you have given me for lifting, turning and opening windows, and so far I am still cooking with gas. Hope you and family had a wonderful summer and a glass of blessings.
